LOLER INSPECTIONS — LONDON & ESSEX
Independent Thorough Examinations · 6-Monthly & 12-Monthly · Impartial Reports
LOLER thorough examinations are the single most important compliance step in the life of a lift. Done properly, they catch serious defects before they become accidents. Done carelessly — or by someone with a financial interest in the outcome — they become a tickbox exercise that can leave building owners, managing agents and passengers dangerously exposed.
OUR POSITION ON LOLER INDEPENDENCE
Unlike many lift companies, we deliberately do not carry out our own LOLER thorough examinations.
You wouldn't ask the accountant who keeps your books to also audit them. The same principle applies to lift safety: the company that services your lift should not be the company signing off on whether their own work is safe. It is a textbook conflict of interest — technically legal, but ethically weak and operationally risky.
That's why East London Elevators works with a qualified, fully independent third-party inspection body to carry out every LOLER thorough examination. A separate firm with their own insurance, their own engineers and their own competent-person accreditation — no financial interest in what they find, or don't find, on your lift.
WHAT LOLER ACTUALLY REQUIRES
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) apply to every passenger and goods lift used at work across the UK. Regulation 9 requires that every lift is inspected by a competent person at strict intervals, with a written report issued for each examination.
| Lift Type | Inspection Interval | Responsible Party |
|---|---|---|
| Passenger lifts | Every 6 months | Building owner / duty holder |
| Goods lifts (goods only) | Every 12 months | Building owner / duty holder |
| Goods lifts carrying people | Every 6 months | Building owner / duty holder |
| Platform lifts | Every 6 months | Building owner / duty holder |
HOW IT WORKS — WHO DOES WHAT
Using an independent inspection body doesn't mean dealing with two separate companies. You deal with us, and we manage everything behind the scenes.

The Competent Person
Independent Inspection Body
One company fixes the lift. A different, unrelated company audits it. No overlap, no conflict, no incentive to fudge the paperwork.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
Every examination produces a formal written Report of Thorough Examination, issued directly by the independent inspection body under their own name and insurance.
FOR MANAGING AGENTS & BLOCK MANAGERS
If you manage a portfolio of blocks across London and Essex, LOLER scheduling is one of those things that either runs smoothly or becomes a compliance nightmare. We can take the whole cycle off your desk.
Portfolio Scheduling
We track every lift's next due date and book inspections proactively — nothing falls through the gaps.
Single Point of Contact
One account manager across your entire estate. No chasing multiple suppliers or inspectors.
Consolidated Compliance Pack
Every LOLER certificate, report and remedial record in one folder — ready for audit, insurance or resale.
QR Code Left on Equipment
A QR code is fixed to the lift after every inspection. Scan it with any smartphone to pull up the report instantly — no login, no calls, no waiting. Future inspection engineers, block managers and insurers all use the same code.
